The culinary reputation of the Starfire Hotel is built on precision, quality, and hygiene. We are currently seeking a hardworking and reliable Kitchen Assistant to join our back-of-house team. This role is the backbone of our kitchen operations, ensuring that our chefs have the support and clean environment they need to create exceptional dishes.
Role Overview As a Kitchen Assistant, you will support the Executive Chef and line cooks by maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and organization. Your primary focus will be managing the dishwashing area, assisting with basic food preparation, and ensuring all kitchen stations are sanitized and stocked. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for someone looking to start a career in the culinary arts.
Key Responsibilities
- Hygiene & Sanitation: operate the industrial dishwasher, wash pots and pans by hand, and ensure all crockery, cutlery, and cooking utensils are spotless and stored correctly.
- Food Preparation: Assist chefs with basic “mise en place” tasks, such as peeling vegetables, washing salads, and portioning ingredients according to established recipes.
- Kitchen Maintenance: Clean and sanitize kitchen surfaces, floors, and storage areas regularly; manage waste disposal and recycling in compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Inventory Support: Assist with receiving deliveries, checking for quality and accuracy, and storing goods in the appropriate refrigerators or dry storage areas (following FIFO—First In, First Out).
- Team Support: Respond quickly to requests from chefs during busy service periods to fetch ingredients or equipment.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: Previous experience in a commercial kitchen is a plus, but a willingness to learn and work hard is more important.
- Work Ethic: Ability to work efficiently in a hot, fast-paced environment and handle repetitive tasks with a positive attitude.
- Physical Stamina: Must be able to stand for long shifts and lift heavy pots or boxes of supplies.
- Safety Awareness: Basic knowledge of food hygiene and safety practices (or willing to complete certification upon hiring).
- Availability: Flexible schedule to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
